Drawing with Joanna

My friend Joanna and I met about once a week to draw at a local coffeehouse. This drawing was made at the Starbucks in our neighborhood, a cozy little place with good window seats. While we drew, the two of us would chat about anything and everything. She's from Poland, and is full of interesting stories and life experiences. Every time we met, I learned something new, like how she taught herself English when she arrived in Chicago, or how she was hosting her own radio program on a Polish station here.

On this drawing date, she told me all about packing her Honda with her possessions and dropping it off to be shipped back to Poland. And that's where she is now-back home. Perhaps only temporarily, perhaps for good. Either way, I enjoyed our drawing dates together, and our conversations.

Nice blog. I'm in Southern Calif. just got frosty enough to knock the leaves off my mullberry tree a few nights ago. We moved away from the cold! Draw inside till spring!

It is great art to pen both tree and memory in so little space.
